Please tell the African
Leaders and their cohorts
Not to bother themselves
To preach to those of us
At the bottom of the societal
Ladder about more self-denial
As a panacea for economic
Recovery; call for more
Self-denial is like a call
For anemic patient to donate
Non-existing blood.
Please tell them that Africa
And her populations are
A continent and a people
That must survive.
Please tell the African
Leaders and their cohorts
That it’s now time for
Their own self-denial
Time to abstain from their
Traditional ostentatious living
Time to stop treating themselves
And their families as
Endangered species and
The rest of us as animals
To be hunted and killed.
Time to give us food not war
Time to have the courage to
Quit when they’ve failed.
Please tell them that Africa
And her populations are
A continent and a people
That must survive.
