When Angela Burzo got real on social media, speaking out about how she "cannot hide the struggle that is breastfeeding," the internet had her back.
A mom named Angela Burzo is making headlines for a painfully honest Instagram post about breastfeeding. The post has gone insanely viral, because it's just all too real. In her confession, Burzo explains that while she loves seeing "beautiful women in their beautiful nursing clothes smiling down at their babes as they lovingly look up back at them hand in hand while breastfeeding away," her reality is not in sync with that idyllic picture.
"This is real & as much as I want to stay strong and be the soldier I feel I can be I cannot hide the struggle that is BREASTFEEDING," Burzo wrote. "Whether she is not latching on properly, whether I am not producing enough milk to keep up with her demand, whether my nipples might not be adequate, whether we confused her with having to give her a bottle after pumping....whatever it may be it has been an emotional & painful struggle."
Although Burzo took to Instagram a week ago, the Facebook page "Love What Matters" picked up her post yesterday, Monday, August 14, and so far, it has wracked up more than 13,000 reactions and over 3,000 comments.
One commenter wrote, "Fed is best. ... You need to do what is best for you and your baby will be happier because of it as well," while another showed solidarity, writing, "Oh, Mama! Dry your tears and know it's going to be OK! Promise! I struggled with the exact same thing." Another even said she'd be happy to be there for Burzo if she needed someone to talk to, writing, "I'm so sorry you're experiencing this. I've been there and I know exactly how you're feeling. It's the worst! If you haven't seen a lactation consultant, PLEASE do, and also know, it WILL get better. Feel free to message me if you'd like to talk more!"
As devastating as Burzo's initial post was, it's incredibly heartening to see so many people come out to support the struggling mama. And props to Burzo for bravely sharing her experience, which is clearly one shared by many mothers. The more moms can support one another like this, the better off every mom will be -- and their L.O.s, too!
